Achille Perilli was born in 1927. He enrolled at the faculty of Literature of the University of Rome in 1945, where he graduated with a “de Chirico” thesis. In 1947 he was among the founders of “Forma 1” group. In 1948 takes part (presented by Venturi) at “The International Congress of Art Critics” in Paris, in the organization of the first exhibition of abstract art in Italy in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and then he joined the Concrete Art Movement- MAC. With Dorazio and Guerrini opens the library – gallery “Golden Age” in Rome (1950) and arranges for the publication of “Forma 2 – Homage to Kandinsky” and the exhibition “Abstract and concrete art in Italy” while in 1952 takes part in the first exhibition of the “Fondazione Origine”. In 1956 held his first personal exhibition in Florence (Strozzina Gallery) and the following year he had the first exhibition in Rome and among other things he founded, with Gastone Novelli the magazine “Esperienza Moderna”. After his participation at the Biennale of S. Paolo in Brazil in 1959, organized the show “Collage” at the Eliseo Theater of Rome. In 1962, he was present at the Biennale in Venice with a personal exhibition, while in 1963 he took part in the exhibition “L’art et l’écriture” at the Kunsthalle Gallery in Baden Baden and at the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam. In the same year, there were as well a series of sculptures in painted wood (the “columns”). In 1964, after a personal exhibition at the Kunstverein Gallery in Freiburg, he founded the magazine “Grammatica” with Giuliani, Manganelli and Novelli. In 1965 produced the scenes and costumes for the ballet “Mutazioni” at the Theater Scala in Milan and obtains the “Comune di Roma” Prize at the Quadriennale. In 1968 he took part in the Biennale of Venice with a personal exhibition and in 1972 he participated in the creation of another group “Lavoro Intercodice”, with which collaborated until 1981 organizing in exhibitions shows and publications.
In 1975 he wrote the manifest “Machinerie, ma chère machine”. He took part in the realization of the book “Altro, ten years of Lavoro intercodice” (1981) and then wrote the manifest “Theory of the irrational geometric” and has a retrospective show in San Marino entitled “Achille Perilli, 1947-1982 continuum”. He had participated in exhibitions of “Forma 1 1947 – 1987” held in France and in Germany (1987). In 1989 he participated in the exhibition “Guidelines of Italian Art 1947 – 1989”, held in Moscow and Leningrad. In 1994 published the book “The Golden Age of Form 1” and has been present in the exhibitions of “Forma 1” in Parma, Verona and London. In 1996 published the book “Etek, babbecedario allunatico illustrato” and began to realize the wood sculptures called “Trees”. In 1997 he won the “Presidente della Reppublica” Prize and participated in the exhibitions “Form 1 and its artists” at the Prague Castle Stables and held a personal exhibition at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona in 1998. In 2000 is present at the exhibition “Form 1 and its artists” of the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. In 2001 he participated in the exhibition “Cross.Roads, Polo Mussale Internazionale per l’Arte Contemporanea, Genazzano. In 2002 took part at the exhibition “From Futurism to Abstractism”, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Roma, Museo del Corso. In 2003 exposes in the Exhibition: “An avant-garde experience in the Genoa of the sixties”, Museum of Contemporary Art of Villa Croce, Genoa. In 2004 “Invisioni” Achille Perilli + Paolo Radi, “Il Torchio” Art Gallery – Costantini Contemporary Art, Milan and a major retrospective to Matildenohe Darmstadt. In 2005 participates in the exhibition: “Italian signals of the Farnesina Contemporary Art Collection” at the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade.
In March of 2008 he inaugurated, at the Gallery Tega of Milan, a personal exhibition and in 2010 participates at the Biennale of Venice. He currently lives and works in Orvieto in his country house. And since 2015 L’Archivio Achille Perilli is working on the publication of the General Catalog.
